We hear you.
Let us take a moment to express our gratitude for your perseverance and your patience. We know that you’ve been waiting anxiously for details regarding how to prepare and plan for what’s going to happen when we all finally come together on June 5.
We understand how you are feeling. For many of you, this will be the first time you’ve taken part in a direct action. Even more so, the first time you’ve engaged in a radical, feminist act.
Yet we need for you to further understand that as this is an act of civil disobedience, we do not know all the answers. We understand this will make many of you feel uncomfortable, yet we are being asked by our Black, Brown and Indigenous leaders to get out of our comfort zone in order to ban guns and take down white supremacy.
One of the fundamental tenets of white supremacy is that we have the right to comfort. Yet we need to resist this urge of needing comfort and recognize that many of our questions are stemming from our white entitlement and white urgency (we recommend the work of Tema Okun to learn more about the tenets of “white supremacy culture,” and encourage you to read her work).
To reiterate, this is a radical feminist act and an act of civil disobedience, so we cannot answer all of your questions. Yet we can tell you this . . .
When 25,000 white women show up at 5am MT on June 5 to demand that Colorado Governor Jared Polis sign an executive order to ban guns and buy them back, the world will be watching!
We have received messages of encouragement from all around the nation and globe and June 5, 2023, is going to be remembered as the day that white women utilized their power and privilege by following the lead of Black, Brown and Indigenous women leaders.
As for specifics, we will be back VERY soon with more specific answers to your logistics questions – and rest assured we are working hard to make this all as considered as possible. And please be sure to join our online community, Mighty Networks, if you haven’t already, as much of the day-of information will be shared there.
We are so deeply grateful to you for taking part in our collective liberation. We will see you in Colorado.
